Benefits of RAIS Technology
Inherent Reliability
High-availability and fault-tolerance are integral to our RAIS solution. It is designed for true lossless computing, down to the transaction level. A RAIS Array can work in fully redundant mode to tolerate failure. Transactions are safe even if an individual server node fails. Hot Swap-ability enables administrators to replace, or add, array nodes as needed without interruption to service.
Linear Scalability
The power of a RAIS Array is equal to the sum of its server nodes in terms of memory and processor speed. Administrators can ‘scale-up’ their arrays by replacing server nodes with higher performance servers, or ‘scale-out’ by simply adding more server nodes altogether. There is virtually unlimited global-shared memory and processing capacity available within a scalable RAIS Array. The result is a near-linear performance increase as server nodes are added to a RAIS Array.
Single System manageability
With RAIS, there are no individual server images to maintain. No need to update and patch individual OS or application platforms. Any updates to the RAIS solution are managed through the included management interface and deployed to the attached server nodes automatically. No multiple installs, configurations, updates, or patches.
Unlike clusters, there are no individual servers to maintain. All software used by the server nodes is provided and managed by RAIS. An intuitive, web-based administration console enables you to set up an array in minutes. Easily customized reporting enables concise reports to be defined and automated.
Cost-effectiveness
A RAIS Array can run with as few as 2 attached server nodes. Enterprises can utilize as many servers as needed to meet today’s requirements, with the full knowledge that more processing capacity can be readily added later.
With advances in today’s low and medium-end servers, this is the single most cost-effective way to manage throughput needs. RAIS Arrays utilize inexpensive, off-the-shelf servers, assuring the lowest possible cost of entry. Servers in an array can be mixed according to processing or organizational requirements. Existing hardware can be easily re-used to further lower acquisition costs.
RAIS technology is delivered as an appliance. Our technology is embedded under the covers to reduce training and re-engineering to a minimum. There is no RAIS-related programming required. There are no new programming paradigms to learn, no complex distributed programming rules.
If your applications can run on an SMP, they can run on RAIS without re-engineering- true binary compatibility.
