The Management Team

John Matthew Holt

Chief Executive Officer

John Matthew Holt is the creative architect and inspiration behind the RAIS technology concept which is derived from dedicated research into distributed computing and virtualisation technology. This began in 1998, at a time when John Matthew was still completing his secondary education. Single-handedly he conceived, designed and developed the foundation elements of a completely new approach to memory virtualisation technology for the Java platform that became what we now know as Replicode® and RAIS

Reaching a crucial and promising point within his research John Matthew deferred entry to his awarded place at the Faculty of Engineering at the University of New South Wales in favour of pursuing his goal of achieving the breakthrough he knew to be within reach. By 2002 all the foundation elements had been completed and John Matthew, with his father, co-founded Waratek Pty Ltd as the necessary support structure to exploit these extensive research efforts at a commercial level.

John Matthew took inspiration from the earlier development of RAID, the highly successful technology that revolutionised the management of data and disks. Managing the execution of code has different problems to managing static data, but it was the underlying principles of RAID that led to the development of RAIS, the core product of Waratek. RAIS will have the same worldwide impact on the management of distributed memory virtualisation as RAID has had for data management. Not only is John Matthew the inventor and founder of this technology he remains the visionary within Waratek driving RAIS technology to global commercial success.

Dr. John Holt

Chief Operating Officer

John has degrees in history, psychology and a PhD in Management from the Australian Graduate School of Management at the University of New South Wales, Sydney, Australia. John has a broad and varied background in operational management across different types of industry environments, such as home improvements, manufacturing and human services. He also has extensive experience in organisation and management research. This broad organisational experience has played a critical role in shaping the vision of Waratek and its R&D activities.

In 1998 John made the commitment to support his son’s research and development effort to break new ground in computer virtualisation technology. In December 2002, John with his son John Matthew co-founded and incorporated Waratek Pty Ltd to consolidate this innovative research into what is now called RAIS technology.

In January 2004 John took a full time role with Waratek and as Chairman and, until recently Managing Director, John has been responsible for building and expanding the strong management team necessary to introduce RAIS to the market and to maximise the commercial potential of Waratek.

Vincent Liu

Chief Software Engineer

Vincent Liu was born in Singapore where he attended Singapore Polytechnic, completing a diploma in electronics, communications and computer engineering. His high achievements at Singapore Polytechnic earned him both the Chunco Technology Prize for meritorious academic achievements and a Golden Jubilee Scholarship to the University of New South Wales, Australia, an award given only to the very best graduates from Singapore and Malaysia.

Vincent’s time at the University of New South Wales saw him graduate in 2003 with a Bachelor of Science degree (First Class Honours), majoring in Computer Science. During this period Vincent tutored on various computing subjects including software construction, e-commerce technologies, and object oriented software development. He also acted as a part-time research assistant for the School of Computer Science, developing software to calculate various performance metrics for web services.

Vincent came to the attention of Waratek in early 2004, when Dr Holt requested the Faculty of Computer Science and Engineering at UNSW to recommend a suitable candidate to join John Matthew Holt in completing the development and refinement of the emerging RAIS and Replicode® technology. Vincent, one of their top students planning entry to the Faculty’s PHD program was nominated. Quick to join the Waratek team Vincent has played a central role in assembling Waratek’s prototype reference server arrays, the largest being a 64 CPU array configuration, housed in the Australian Centre for Advanced Computing and Communication (AC3) in Redfern, Sydney.

Vincent is now appointed as the Chief Software Engineer for Waratek, where he leads a team of developers completing further optimisation of the code and the preparation of the Replicode® software into its commercial presentation to target clients during the current commercialisation process of RAIS and Replicode®.
