-beta programme to be expanded in US, UK and Ireland-
Dublin, 22nd September 2011, Waratek, the pioneer of array computing and developer of the Redundant Array of Independent Servers (RAIS) technology for clustered computing, has announced the successful completion of trials with Apache Tomcat™ alpha partners. Waratek is moving forward immediately with beta trials based on the success of the alpha programme.
Waratek RAIS enables individual commodity servers to be operated as a single virtual machine, with continuous availability. The alpha programme demonstrated that no changes are required to existing or new applications or infrastructure. Because RAIS renders each node stateless and operates the cluster as a single machine, Tomcat-based Java applications are not affected by hardware or OS failures, ensuring continuous availability for transaction-based applications. Application tasks are automatically transferred to other parts of the array, preventing data and transaction losses.
RAIS is optimized for Java to transparently scale out across a cluster, without making any changes to applications, significantly reducing development times for Tomcat-based Java applications. Waratek is actively seeking new beta partners that are operating mission-critical, on-demand environments as it continues to develop RAIS.
“After almost a decade of research and development of the RAIS technology, it is exhilarating to see the fault tolerance that we’re achieving with our alpha partners in real world extreme transaction processing environments, without making any changes to their infrastructure or applications,” commented Brían Maccaba, CEO of Waratek, “RAIS encapsulates all that is required to run mission-critical Java applications. We are extremely confident as we move into beta and look forward to expanding our beta programme in the US, UK and Ireland.”

Dublin 4th May 2011, Waratek is proudly sponsoring the fourth annual Red Hat EMEA Partner Summit, taking place at Convention Centre Dublin on 5th – 8th June, where it will preview its virtual system solution: the Waratek Redundant Array of Independent Servers (RAIS). RAIS is designed to support the Red Hat JBoss® Enterprise Application Platform (EAP) and Waratek will show how it can dramatically reduce Java cluster application development times and operational costs.
Waratek CTO, John Matthew Holt, will be giving a presentation at the Summit, in which he will examine the management overheads required by current cluster computing environments and introduce attendees to Waratek RAIS, which enables Java clusters to operate as a single, fault-tolerant virtual machine. He will explain how, by aggregating the memory and processing power of individual commodity servers, RAIS virtual machines can deliver operational benefits comparable to those of far larger systems.
Summit attendees will discover how they can use RAIS for JBoss EAP and benefit from shortened application development and deployment times, with scalability, fault-resilience and reduced cluster management overhead. They can also find out how to redeploy existing Java cluster applications on RAIS virtual machines, without making changes to the applications.
Brían Maccaba, CEO of Waratek comments, “As a Dublin-based technology start-up, we’re delighted to be the silver sponsor of the Red Hat EMEA Partner Summit, which is taking place on our home turf. This event attracts solution vendors and system integrators from around the world and we’re keen to show them how Waratek RAIS reduces operational costs for Java clusters and enables dramatic savings on Java application deployment times.”
Dublin, 14th February 2011, Waratek, the pioneer of array computing and developer of Redundant Array of Independent Servers (RAIS) technology for clustered computing, has become a Red Hat advanced independent software vendor partner.
Waratek RAIS uses an innovative memory architecture that treats individual, commodity servers as a single virtual machine. This allows Java applications running on Red Hat’s JBoss® Enterprise Application Platform (EAP) to transparently scale out across a cluster, without making any changes to the applications. RAIS also significantly reduces the time required to develop and bring new Java applications to market.
The Red Hat ISV partner program gives Waratek easy access to the tools and resources necessary to develop and test the RAIS virtual machine technology with JBoss EAP and Red Hat Linux. Waratek will also benefit from joint marketing to open source developers, participation in Red Hat events, and product listing in the Red Hat software catalogue.
“Corporate IT teams have recognized the significant cost savings offered by JBoss EAP and Red Hat Linux and are implementing open source strategies across their environments,” commented Brían Maccaba, CEO of Waratek, “Red Hat is the world’s premier provider of open source technologies and our first iteration of RAIS is optimized for JBoss EAP, so this partnership is perfectly timed as we bring Waratek’s RAIS to market.”

Enterprise Ireland makes investment
Dublin, Ireland – July 26, 2010
Waratek Ltd., the pioneers of Array Computing, today was named a High Potential Start-up (HPSU) by Enterprise Ireland.
To qualify as a High Potential Start-up, Waratek had to meet rigorous evaluation criteria for technical innovation, market opportunity, commercial viability, and product export potential. As part of its recognition of Waratek’s ‘HPSU’ status, Enterprise Ireland has made an equity investment in the company.
“Enterprise Ireland is working closely with Waratek and is delighted to have supported this highly innovative export-oriented company”, said Greg Treston, Head of High Potential Start Ups at Enterprise Ireland. “Waratek is an excellent example of the type of company that Enterprise Ireland is keen to support, and we look forward to continuing to work with the company to further develop their international business.”
“Enterprise Ireland has been very instrumental and supportive in helping Waratek establish itself as a technology company in Ireland”, said Waratek’s Founder and COO, Dr. John Holt. “We plan to use Enterprise Ireland’s financial and extensive international business support network as a way to jump start our commercialization plans.”
About Waratek
Waratek is founded on the belief that server virtualization represents more than resource consolidation- it is about resource maximization. Waratek’s RAIS solutions enable enterprises to maximize new developments in server hardware and application infrastructure, and to leverage those advances from the perspective of reliability, performance, and cost perspectives.
About Enterprise Ireland
Enterprise Ireland is the Irish Government organisation responsible for the development and internationalisation of Irish enterprises. The organisation’s prime purpose is to increase exports and export-led employment.
Waratek, Ltd. the pioneers of Array Computing, today announced the completion of an initial round of funding by premier technology investor, Mangrove Capital Partners.
Waratek will use the capital to expand its engineering team as part of an aggressive productization plan for its innovative RAIS technology. RAIS is an entirely new server virtualization approach that promises high-end server performance and reliability but at commodity server costs.
“The concept of turning a set of commodity servers into one single virtual computer is not a new idea. Past attempts, however, have failed primarily due to network latency issues. Waratek’s RAIS technology is a new breed of server virtualization that offers tremendous market opportunities” says Mauro Mariani, Mangrove representative and member of Waratek’s board. “RAIS has the potential to disrupt the IT infrastructure market.”
About Waratek
Waratek was founded in 2002 as a research and development organization determined to resolve the longstanding performance and management problems associated with cluster-based virtualized networks.
In early 2009, Waratek established its international headquarters in Dublin to take advantage of Ireland’s business and technology-oriented climate.
Waratek holds multiple international patents for server virtualization innovations.
