About Us

Waratek, the inventor of RAIS technology is poised to transform the cost and efficiency of commercial computing as we know it today. This achievement is the result of many years of research and development to reach a goal long thought to be unattainable. RAIS provides the means to manage clusters of independent computers in an entirely new way, providing a redundant, dependable, and fully scalable solution. Significantly, and central to the development, this is achieved entirely without the need for changes to source or computer code.

RAIS, which stands for ‘Redundant Array of Inexpensive Servers’, is an innovative ground breaking approach to solving a longstanding problem with cluster based computer architectures and the management of memory. Inspired by the principles and simplicity of RAID disk technology, RAIS will revolutionise the utilisation of cluster computing systems in the same way RAID transformed the management of disk based data storage. RAIS will drive large scale reductions in the cost of computer operations across the whole IT inventory lifecycle, without risk to the reliability, flexibility and resilience demanded of business critical computing.

Waratek was founded in 2002 as a research and development organisation determined to resolve the longstanding problems concerning the practical management of cluster based virtualised networks. There was no doubt that solving these inherent difficulties would open a gateway to substantial cost reductions by enabling cluster technology to be retained in virtually all the circumstances where clusters are currently deemed to be impractical. This breakthrough will circumvent the hitherto unavoidable capital intensive transformation to SMP solutions for large scale computer operations. During these development years Waratek operated in “stealth mode” while it completed the enormous amount of work necessary to meet the technical challenge it faced and to protect it’s underlying IP. Having achieved commercialisation of its ground breaking technology Waratek’s RAIS is capable of serving the enterprise world with confidence.

In late 2008, Waratek established its international headquarters in Dublin, Ireland where it is led by a team of highly respected hardware and software technologists. It has gained backing from the Luxembourg based venture capital organisation Mangrove Capital Partners. Mangrove has a reputation for supporting technology entrepreneurs to build successful world class companies and, as a credit to Waratek, was quick to recognise the outstanding market potential of RAIS technology.

Waratek developments will revolutionise memory management just as RAID transformed the management of data storage and disk technology
